On the 1st of December, 2021 at 14:00 UTC, Decentralized Club had the honor of hosting Lucas Liu (Co-Founder) of Dmail for an Ask-Me-Anything session on their Telegram page with a community of over 70,000 people. It was hosted by DC Admin, May.

The session was divided into four segments. Introductions were made in Segment 1, questions from the Twitter and website community were answered in Segment 2 and 3 respectively, and live questions from the community members in attendance were answered in Segment 4.

Let me start by giving you an overview of what we're actually doing, and I have to say, it's an amazing product！

Dmail is the first mail application based on Web3.0 and Dfinity technology that integrates NFT(Each account is NFT) and distributed storage functions. Dmail lowers the threshold for users and developers to participate in the crypto-world by enabling undifferentiated transmission of information between traditional mail and blockchain mail so that users can use the blockchain as if they use the internet.

We hope that Dmail is the foundation and key connector of user communication, information sharing, and collaborative communication on and off the chain in the future. As an information interaction gateway in the new era, it will help users connect the whole blockchain world and the real world, and will also help users, developers, institutions, and assets to build reliable interactive connections and build an information storage space that will never be lost in the blockchain world.

Compared with traditional mail, Dmail gives the rights of control to users. Users can manage and access data using the private key, and can also determine the future trend of the product through community autonomy. Dmail is committed to providing users with a permanent service without a centralized server and ensures the ownership and privacy of data.

In addition, Dmail has functions such as mailboxes, NFTs, crypto assets, subscription, IMO, airdrop, data storage, enterprise version, and transaction reminders on Dfinity.

As the symbol of humans entering the Internet, the position of mailboxes on the Internet is unshakeable. However, the mailboxes we commonly use have emerged with a lot of problems. Data leakage, spam, phishing emails, and other problems have started to affect our use of mailboxes.

The Dmail team is trying to make mailbox Web3.0 to solve all the problems of current mailbox products.

Next, I will introduce our products in detail for you in the form of a picture display. You can see each detailed page of our products. After the introduction, you can experience our products according to the demo address I sent.

Let me now introduce you to our unique features：

IMO

The project can be understood as a decentralized version of the Coinlist platform by sending each Dmail user their detailed information and fundraising via email. The obvious advantage is that the email format reduces the difficulty of use for many users and greatly increases their motivation to participate in it. We will increase the percentage of Dmail core users getting credits based on the calculation of the formula so that users get real benefits.

Decentralized Cloud Drive

Based on the characteristics of Dfinity, the first decentralized storage for C-users can experience all the data, only the user can control the real completion of decentralized storage.

Enterprise-side Services

Dmail can provide decentralized storage services for enterprise-level users, ensuring data security and privacy for enterprise-level users.

NFT Features

Each mailbox of Dmail is an NFT, and it is an NFT that users can actually use, which is a real Web 3.0 DID for each user.

Why build Dmail on DFINITY?

In particular, Dmail considers the following as the main reasons for building on the Internet Computer:

2.1 Low gas fees

Who wants to pay for every action and/or email sent? Here, there is no need for any payment to be made when interfacing with DApps built on the Internet Computer due to its reverse gas fee model. Imagine having to pay a fee (no matter how small) every time you need to send and/or receive an email.

2.2 Strong Scalability

Dmail believes that DFINITY is well ahead (compared to, say, ETH 2.0) in terms of 'sharding' whereby subnets (or shards) on the Internet Computer can be merged, removed, and in particular added (as network demand grows) without 'the need to stop Dapp services during the expansion process.'

2.3 Interoperability

Chain key cryptography opens up a world of possibilities for dApps to inter-operate with dApps on the Internet Computer, with dApps on other blockchains including Ethereum (and more so with the planned direct integration with Ethereum).

In addition to the above, Dmail is developing a new standard based on MIME specifically to bridge Dmail (and/or any other decentralized email application on the Internet Computer) with traditional email.

How exactly does Dmail work? Is it any different from our conventional email services providers?

For Dmail Network, I think there are two core elements to maintain success:

1. solving problems around real demands;

2. ecological growth.

For the demand, although the traditional mailbox is widely used, the disadvantage of centralized formation is obvious, all the information from users actually exists in the centralized domain company, which will actually have a great security risk. And in the field of privacy communication, applications like telegram have appeared, but there is no decentralized application in the mailbox field that is actually willing to be used by more people.

In addition to future development, many people in this industry believe that the Internet will go to the web3.0 era, which has a definite feature: data confirmation and information interconnection. In other words, in the web3.0 era, the connection barrier caused by the centralized node will be disregarded significantly, and everyone will have a digital identity on the network, through which they can freely travel between different applications and complete the interaction between different people, things, and applications. On this platform, we can see various functions including communication, information and asset trading, etc. Meanwhile, through the decentralized storage mechanism in the Dfinity blockchain, users can enjoy the convenience of web 3.0 and be guaranteed their information’s security and privacy.

From the ecological point of view, Dmail Network is the first mailbox application on the Dfinity blockchain, we will firstly design functions around the ecology of Dfinity, and incorporate more applications in the ecology into the functions and services of Dmail Network. Next, we will do more cross-chain & multi-chain functions and applications, so that the decentralized mailbox can be connected to Ethereum or even more blockchains, and truly become a web3.0 tool.

Dmail has solid features!

What innovative solution is Dmail bringing to topple its competitors with similar offerings in the DeFi sector?

Next, I'll give you a detailed explanation of why Dmail's NFT is valuable, which I believe is a question everyone is curious about. When mentioning this issue, one of the topics we have to talk about is another recent hot project - ENS. Dmail's NFT is similar to ENS in many usage scenarios, but Dmail's usage and usage scenarios are a bit richer.

ENS is actually a domain name registration protocol on which a human-readable domain name can be mapped to an ethernet address. But Dmail does this differently while having many feature points that go beyond ENS.

Dmail uses an original "mail head" system as the top-level domain name visible and used by users, under which they can put their own addresses of various public chains under it, instead of just sticking to ethereum. So it provides several key use cases: Web3 identities & usernames, native payments, enhanced domain property value (NFT), decentralized web services. Next, I will elaborate on each of these use cases.

Web3 Identity

Dmail was originally a DID build on the Dfinity network, but in the next year, Dmail will be a Web3DID that includes both Dfinity and completes multiple cross-chains. Just as Internet users can use their Google, Twitter, or Facebook accounts to log in to various websites, Dmail has the potential to become the "single sign-on" of Web3. Because Dmail's domain name is self-hosted, it eliminates the traditional use of a centralized middleman (such as Google) to log in to various platforms.

Native Payments

All Dmail domains can be used as cryptocurrency native wallet addresses, and they can receive multiple cryptocurrencies, including BTC, ETH, DOGE, and other integrated assets. With Dmail, transactions can be sent to designated users to make payments without going through a payment intermediary.

Enhanced Domain Equity Value (NFT)

Because each domain name of Dmail is an NFT and has its uniqueness. It also takes into account the functionality of a decentralized mailbox and the identity attribute of a user's Web3DID, thus revealing the value of Dmail's NFT. Unlike ENS, the user has the perpetual ownership of Dmail unless the user goes to the NFT market to trade it, but ENS requires the user to pay usage fees to use it yearly.

Decentralized Network

The entire system of Dmail is a completely decentralized network where users can choose to transfer money, send emails, and log in to other Web3 eco-applications.

To sum up, Dmail's domain name NFT will become the first DID for the majority of Web3 users in the future. Through its powerful functionality, permanent attribution, and true decentralization, it will give users a truer sense of what Web3 is.

Each generation has its own generational opportunities. At this point, it is clear that blockchain technology is one of the most important and cutting-edge technologies of our day, with the ability to affect and potentially change the paradigm of our daily lives in every way in the future.

The crypto market, influenced by blockchain technology, is closer to the substance of the market, finance, and trade, and it offers people a way to conduct transactions without trust, potentially improving the overall efficiency of the financial market. When we set up the team, we are looking for partners who have the same development philosophy and are skillful and professional in their sector. Therefore, although we had some difficulties in the process of developing the project, we finally completed the challenge with our ability, persistence, and belief. For us, the greater challenge may come from the external environment. Because our project is global, but the policies of each region in the world are different. In the promotion of the project, we need to pay great attention to the different policy requirements of each region. The sudden policy requirements of some important countries may also affect the local promotion of our project and the attitude of our investors towards the follow-up development, which may be the biggest challenge we face.

At the same time, Dfinity is still at a relatively early stage, and faces many problems in development, especially from the perspective of language (RUST/MOTOKO) implementation, such as no complete documentation, no best path for technical implementation, developers are still in the figuring out stage, development cycle and time vary, etc.
